Aviation – what is the en route or on route freqency in the USA?

In Canada, we monitor 126.7 when there are no other frequencies to monitor or when not close to any airports. FSS will listen to this frequency, and position reports are usually made on this frequency. Is there such a frequency in the US?

Aviation experts: Which types of airplane are inherently unsafe?

Yes I know all types of commerical airplane are supposed to be extremely safe, but surely it is the case that some are inherently less safe than others by design.

A few examples:
Aircraft with outwards opening cargo doors.
Single and twin-engine aircraft with a poor power-to-weight ratio.
T-tail aircraft.

Get my drift?

So can someone give me a list of aircraft that the paranoid flyer should avoid?

Does an Aviation Maintenance Officer actually work on aircraft?

Does an Aviation Maintenance Officer actually work on aircraft? Or do they just oversee enlisted men who work on aircraft? i.e. will you actually be turning a wrench or watching enlisted men turn wrenches? Reason I ask: I’m thinking of applying to Navy or Marine OCS and thinking of this as a possible MOS.
Thanks. This is what I figured. I might just enlist and try and get a guaranteed MOS of aviation mechanic. I’m graduating in May from a very prestigious liberal arts college (top 10 in the country) with a degree in the humanities but I’m a mathematics minor. I’ve also been around automotive engines my whole life (my dad and grandpa love classic cars). Thus, I think I’d really enjoy being an aviation mechanic and also be good at it. Also, I’d get my college loans paid back, and get trained in a technical field that would relate to a civilian job, if I didn’t stay in and make it a career. Is my thinking sound on this?

What can I do for my aircraft project?

So can you give me any ideas or help on what can I do for my aircraft project. It can be anything to do with aircraft or even helicopter. But i have to build something as well in this project so im looking for a project which involves lots of research, making something and presenting it.

Any ideas welcomed.

Thank You for helping me.

Aviation – What rules apply to Class E airspace in the USA?

Whatever is controlled airspace and is not A, B, C, or D is Class E airspace. What radio procedures apply for Class E control zones, class E airways, etc.
Great answers so far, thank you. Are there Class E airports? In Canada we have Class E airports where you have to call 5 minutes prior to entering the Class E control zone. Is this the same in the USA?

what is a typical day in the life of a Marine corp aviation mechanic?

like typically what is a normal day for a marine corp aviation mech.
and what is it like when deployed in iraq or afghan? does he just work at his MOS or does he perform other tasks as well ,
thanks

Is Jacksonville University a good school to go to to get the aviation management and flight operations degree?

Is Jacksonville University a good school to go to to get the aviation management and flight operations degree with an ultimate goal of flying for Delta, Southwest USAir as a Captain/Pilot In Command?

Need info on purchasing a handheld GPS which is applicable for aviation and finding my way out of the woods…

I have checked out Garmin, Lowrance, and Magellan. Lowrance has the Airmap 600c which is the closest for aviation purposes, and price range, but I couldn’t get any good info for the terrestrial use, if it even has any, for that particular model. I also checked out the Garmin 96c. The Lowrance seems to have more for less. Could never get through the Lowrance phone line to talk to an actual person. As a student GA pilot, I am interested in a handheld model that would serve me in the air, as well as if I had to ditch in an unknown area such as a forest, etc, and lived to walk my way out! Just trying to find a model that has the best of both applications. Want to stay within the 300-500. dollar range. Can be flexible within 100 dollars more if necessary. Any suggestions?

Can you switch from Nuke to Aviation in the Navy?

Hi, I’m considering joining the navy as a nuke and I’m just wondering if I can do the STA-21 program and then, after I’ve completed my schooling with a degree, if I can go into aviation. I know I have to be qualified and all of that, I’m just wondering if I can apply for it because I know for nuke when you’re first enlisted you can’t change your job rating so just wondering about that-thanks.

How is an aircraft’s longitudinal stability achieved ?

If an aircraft takes dive erroneously due to whatever reason, what makes it become horizontal again ?… How is this automatic stability achieved ?… I know that lateral stability ( prevention of roll) is achieved by raising the wing tips keeping the point where wing attached (to the fuselage), same.
I am talking about the stability achieved automatically, without moving any flaps. i.e. static stability. In other words, stability achieved even when all flaps are fixed to their default position and are immovable.
