What aircraft were involved in the battles around KHE SANH BASE IN 1968 ?
KHE SANH was a U.S. Marines’ airfield/base that was sieged by the North Vietnamese Army in 1968 for around 77 days. They were intense combats in this siege and the U.S. used plenty of aircraft. But what type of aircraft was used in these combats ? Were only from the USMC ?

The above answer pretty much cover the fixed wing attack craft, there were the C130 Hercs for the transport of goods and replacements. Hueys, cobras and Jolly Green Giants were also used in the defence of Khe Sanh and out-lying patrol bases. The link below is entitled ‘Air Power and the fight for Khe Sanh’, I think it should answer most of your questions if you fancy a wee read!
You could probably throw in some F-101′s, F-8′s, and F-105′s and maybe even a C-130 gunship here or there. B-52′s were also employed in Vietnam, although I don’t know if these aircraft were actually involved in/around KheSanh in ’68.
Back then the Marines used Cobra gunship helicopters and F-4 Phantom jet fighters.
